Boise Curb Cup

So, I think that the Montana Freestyle Jam has a little competition in the realm of outdoor mass talent shows. Last week Jim, Sunny, Zeb and I participated in the Boise Curb Cup; demonstrating footbag, fire poi, juggling and fire footbag. I though we did pretty well, but turns out we didn't even place in the top 25(of 139 acts). The crowd was estimated at 30,000 people in the downtown area. It was fun, but 2hr. 30 min of shred-your-hardest took its toll and my feel felt like lead for the last hour. Jim burned his feet after the 5th or so fire footbag demonstration. It's worth checking out at boisecurbcup (dot) com, but the site doesn't reveal as much as it could about the event. Some Karate team won first place, but the website hasn't been updated with results yet.

As far as Riley Stark is concerned, I have 19 days of trail work left in Idaho. Besides this one, I get one more weekend off for the Hyde Park Street Fair/Idaho Footbag Jam. It would be great if Missoula was able to make it down to represent. On the 4th of next month, I'll be taking off for a 6 week train/walking tour of Southern Europe. I'll be kickin' it with Flavio for a day or two up in Switzerland. I can't wait. See you at the Idaho Jam!

This and that

So I'm waiting for my plane right now. I'm still in El Paso, TX at my sister's house, but today is the day that I return Boise concluding my 2 month trip south. I took plenty of pictures while in The Southwest and Latin America. Most of y'all have probably already seen some of the pictures that I've taken, but if not then here's the link: http://picasaweb.google.com/oregonash/Winter2009?feat=directlink
It was a good trip, but I'm ready to settle down for a while before I start work for the Forest Service again.

On a side note, I just purchased a shiny new pair of Rod Laver tennis shoes. I had to ditch my old Quantum footbag shoes for lack of space in my luggage. I had a hard time deciding to buy Lavers and not Quantums as my next footbag shoes, but my decision came down to this: Lavers are cheaper and I can use them for non-footbag purposes. You know I want to support Planet Footbag and their distributors, but if Quantums were cheaper and more durable I would have an easier time doing so.
Either way, I haven't had a serious footbag session in about 2 months. I can't wait to get back to Boise and have a session with Zeb, Jim, Daryl and whoever else feels like kickin' it a little bit. I hope to make it up to Missoula in a few weeks too, but not having my own car anymore makes it a little more difficult. I might have to Greyhound it up there and yellow bike around town. Anyone have a few days of couch space for a poor traveler? Maybe I'll see y'all soon.

Nice moves in the videos, btw Kevin.

Ecuador

So I´m about half way through my trip to Ecuador. So far it´s been all right. From what I´ve heard, Ecuador is the most Americanized country in South America. They even pass around American currency, although everything is about half as expensive as it is in The States. So far I´ve been to the Andes Mountains, the Amazon jungle, and soon we´ll go to the coast before going down to Peru. I haven´t kicked footbag since I left Eugene, but I would like to get back into it. SO, I´m thinking of going up to Missoula in mid-March, shortly after I get back to the Northwest. I sold my car the other day, so I have no wheels of my own and would have to bus myself up. I don´t think I can make it to the Freestyle Jam this year, so this might be the best I can do. See yáll soon, maybe?

The Jim Penske Diet

I hope to get better at footbag real soon. I might start training more, but I think I will start by adopting the diet of footbag superstar, Jim Penske. If I subsist on nothing but breakfast cereal, frozen pizza and beer, do you think that I will become the next American champion? What the hey, I'll give it the 'ol college try. Here goes!

I'm done with my summer work thing with the Payette National Forest in central Idaho. Now I'm back in Oregon, visiting friends and family. I kick with Aaron Orton every so often while I'm here. Poor guy just got called up to go to Iraq again. I stopped by Portland the other day, and I kicked with Nick Landes and Chase down in the park. That was fun.
